Hiking trails in the High Tatras will lead you to 13 alpine huts with views of beautiful peaks, vast valleys and white Tatra mountains. High mountain huts in the High Tatras belong to the most popular tourist places. They offer visitors refreshments, the possibility of relaxation and many of them also accommodation. Chalets in our big mountains are also used by many people as starting points for more demanding hikes, for example from Sliezský Dům to Gerlachovský štít.
The Dancer
The Plesnivec Chalet (1 290 m above sea level) is the only chalet in the Belianske Tatras. In 1932, Tibor Gresch from Spišská Bela built a private chalet, which got its present form with an extension in 1938. The chalet is located on the southern slope of the main ridge below the cliffs of the Rocky Gates. The cottage can be reached from the village of Tatranská kotlina by the green sign in 1:30h., from Kežmarské Žľabov, or from the cottage at Zelený pleso in 2 hours by the green and red sign. It is open all year round.
Bilíková chalet
Bilíková chata (1 255 m above sea level) is located in the beautiful high Tatra environment in close proximity to the Hrebienok resort. It stands in the place where the original complex of the Studenopotočky Spa stood. Its location allows for an early start to the climbing terrains, the use of mountain biking in the summer season and good conditions for winter sports. The chalet is an ideal place for various training and educational courses. The centre of Starý Smokovec is only 2.5 km away from the chalet. The chalet can be reached from Starý Smokovec by the green trail in 45 minutes.
Rainer's cottage
Rainer's cottage can boast of the attribute - the first and the oldest cottage in High Tatras. He built it in 1863 Ján Juraj Rainer. Rainerka or otherwise also Rainerova shelter is located on Starolesnianska poľana at the mouth of the Cold Valleys.
Mountain hotel Popradské pleso
Mountain Hotel Popradské Pleso is situated in a picturesque environment Mengus valley with beautiful views of the surrounding peaks. In addition to accommodation, there is a restaurant, Finnish sauna with panoramic views, jacuzzi, ice fountain, reception with sales and rental of climbing equipment, souvenir shop, ski room, drying room and terrace.
Téry's cottage
Téry's hut is the highest hut open all year round (2 015 m above sea level).
It is located in the Little Cold Valley, near the Five Spišské Plies mountain lakes. It bears the name of Edmund Téry, who was called "the doctor of the poor". Edmund Téry contributed to the development of Tatra hiking and was the first recorded person to climb the peaks of Prostredný štít and Pyšný štít. The surroundings of the chalet are ideal for sports and leisure activities. It is suitable for hiking, crossing the saddles, climbing, ski mountaineering, but also for rest and relaxation at the plesias.
Zamkovsky cottage
Zamkovsky cottage located in High Tatras in the Little Cold Valley at an altitude of 1475 m above sea level It is about an hour hike from Hrebienok after red mark direction Skalnaté Pleso. The path to the chalet is Unpretentious, open all year round, so this tour is especially popular families with children. On the way you will be enchanted by the Giant Waterfall and beautiful views of the Tatra Basin, and you will not even notice and you are at the cottage.
Robber's cottage
Robber's cottage located in Great Cold Valleywhich is exceptional in the High Tatras with the largest number of plies (26) of various sizes and characters, and is rich in Tatra fauna and flora. There are countless hiking, mountaineering, ski mountaineering and natural history activities. The chalet is also strategically located for those planning multi-day treks through the High Tatras.
Chata pod Rysmi
Chalet pod Rysmi (2 250 m above sea level) is the highest and the youngest Tatra chalet. It was built in 1933. The chalet is situated in a dry area below the Váha saddle in the valley of the same name, which is part of the Frog Plies basin in the Mengusovská valley. Due to this location it was destroyed several times by stone and snow avalanches. Nowadays it provides not only catering but also accommodation. It is open only in the summer season from 31.5 to 31.10. The hiking trail starts at the Popradské Pleso car park from where you can reach the chalet at Popradské Pleso (1 494 m above sea level) in 50 minutes. From there, we are waiting for 2:30 hours. route along the red trail through the Žabia valley to the chalet under Rysmi (2 250 m above sea level).
Cottage afterd Solis
Chalet pod Soliskom is the youngest alpine chalet in the High Tatras and is located on the southern slope of Predný Solisko. Chalet pod Soliskom (1 840 m above sea level) was built together with the chairlift II leading from Štrbské Pleso to Predné Solisko. The chalet was put into use as early as 1944 at the then longest ski lift in the former Czechoslovakia. In 2003, a new chalet was built on the site of the original chalet, which is still in use today. The chalet is accessible either by chairlift from Štrbské Pleso, or by a blue-marked trail (1:30 h) leading from Štrbské Pleso through the Furkotská valley to the chalet. It is open all year round, 24 hours a day. The supply of the chalet is facilitated by a chairlift. The chalet under Solisko is also the starting point for a hike to Predné Solisko.
Smud hut
Skalnatá chata (1 751 m above sea level) stands on the Tatra Highway on the section Skalnaté pleso - Hrebienok below Skalnatý pleso. The chalet and the nearby Skalnaté pleso are easily accessible from Hrebienok, which makes the hike suitable for families with children. Skalnatá chalet (1 725 m above sea level) is situated in the centre of the Skalnatá valley on the Tatra Highway. The longest and highest Tatra ski slope from Lomnický sedlo (2 190 m above sea level) to Tatranská Lomnica (888 m above sea level) leads in its close vicinity. The chalet is accessible in several ways, by the red trail from Hrebienok and Zelené pleso, by the green trail from Tatranská Lomnica and by the blue trail from Kovalčíkova poľana. For more comfortable tourists, there is a year-round cable car from Tatranská Lomnica to Skalnate pleso, from where it is only a few steps to the cottage. The longest and highest Tatra ski slope from Lomnický sedlo (2 190 m above sea level) to Tatranská Lomnica (888 m above sea level) leads in its close vicinity.
Mountain hotel Sliezsky dom
Mountain hotel Sliezsky dom is the highest hotel with complex facilities in Slovakia at an altitude of 1670 m above sea level. It is located directly below Gerlach, the highest peak in Slovakia. Cottage near the Green Pleso (Brnčalka)
The cottage at Zelený pleso (1 551 m above sea level) is popular with hikers, cyclists, climbers and skiers because of its exceptionally good terrain conditions. Zelené pleso, near which it is located, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Tatras. Access to the chalet is by the yellow trail from the Biela voda bus stop (3:00).
Mountain hotel Popradské pleso
Mountain hotel Popradské pleso (former Chata kpt. Morávku) is situated in the picturesque surroundings of the Mengusov valley in the Tatra National Park, on the bank of Popradské Pleso at an altitude of 1 494 m above sea level. Access to the hotel is from Štrbské Pleso (1:00 a.m.), or from the Popradské Pleso car park (0:50 a.m.).
Majláth's cottage
Majláthova chata (1 498 m above sea level) on Popradské Pleso is a year-round open mountain chalet. It stands on the original site and is built according to period photographs and documents. Its name bears the name of Vojtech Majláth, who built the "first" Majláth chalet in 1879 - 1880. Access to the chalet is from Štrbské Pleso (1:00 a.m.) or from the Popradské Pleso car park (0:50 a.m.).
Rainerova chata (1 301 m above sea level) is the oldest and the smallest Tatra chalet. In its premises it hides a small exposition of the history and present of mountain carriers and a collection of old mountaineering tools and old skis, on which our ancestors used to ski. Every winter the hut keeper of Rainer's hut builds a big snow crib near the hut. The chalet can be reached from Starý Smokovec by following the green trail for 45 minutes to Hrebienok and then the journey to the chalet from Hrebienok takes 25 minutes.
Skalnatá chata (1 751 m above sea level) stands on the Tatra Highway on the section Skalnaté pleso - Hrebienok below Skalnatý pleso. The chalet and the nearby Skalnaté pleso are easily accessible from Hrebienok, which makes the hike suitable for families with children. Ladislav Kulanga is currently the chalet's porter, who is also a porter with several unsurpassed records in carrying goods to mountain chalets (Zbojnícka chalet 141 kg, Téry's chalet 151 kg, Zamkovský chalet 207.5 kg, from Tatranská Lomnica to Skalnatá chalet 187 kg). Hrebienok can be reached from Starý Smokovec in 45 minutes and then the hiking trail from Hrebienok to Skalnatá chata continues, which takes about 2 hours along the red trail.
The highest mountain hotel at an altitude of 1,670 m above sea level connects nature with man. It is an excellent starting point for climbing Gerlachovský štít. From Tatranská Polianka it takes 2 hours to get to the Sliezsky dom by following the green trail.
Téry's chalet (2 015 m above sea level) is the highest chalet with year-round operation. It is located in the Little Cold Valley near the Five Spišské pleso. It bears the name of Edmund Téry, the "doctor of the poor" from Banská Štiavnica, who contributed to the development of Tatra hiking and was the first from the surrounding peaks to climb Prostredný spike and Pyšný štít. The surroundings of the hut are suitable for hiking, climbing, ski mountaineering, but also for rest and relaxation by the mountains. Access to the chalet is from Hrebienok along the red and then along the green trail (2:45 h).
Zamkovský chalet (1 475 m above sea level) is a cosy alpine chalet below the upper forest border in the lower part of the Little Cold Valley. It is the lowest situated alpine chalet providing refreshments and overnight accommodation, which makes it especially popular with families with children. Access to the hut is from Hrebienok (1:00).
Zbojnícka chata (1 960 m above sea level) is a chalet with year-round operation in the upper part of the Veľká Studená dolina (Great Cold Valley), hidden behind the Zbojnícká back. It was built in 1907 by the State Forest Administration of Liptovský Hrádek. At first it served as a hunting lodge, but in 1910 it was given to tourists and climbers. Access to the hut is from Hrebienok along the red and then along the blue trail (2:50 h).
