Cyclists can actively use the more than 6 km long stretch and enjoy the magnificent view from their bicycles.
Between 2018 and 2020, the city of Prešov managed to implement the construction of the first stage of the long-awaited cycle railway from Prešov to the Sigord recreation area. The constructed section of the bicycle road with asphalt surface suitable for cyclists and skaters is 6.5 km long. The cycle track is 3 metres wide (one lane is 1.5 metres wide) and is bi-directional (i.e. 2 lanes).
The bicycle railway follows the route of the former forest railway, later the so-called Pioneer Railway and connected the city of Prešov with the nearby recreational area [trip:12727;Sigord]. In Prešov this cycle path starts in the urban area of Solivar (at the exit in the direction of Dulova Ves, opposite the Cooperative AGROPLUS Prešov) and cyclists will be directed through Dulova Ves and Kokošovce to the Sigord recreation area. Cyclists can now travel comfortably and safely to explore the Slanské Hory Mountains, with beautiful views of our region.
There are also parking areas for bicycles with racks for storing them, benches with garbage bins and information boards lining the path.
The construction was carried out by Swietelsky Slovakia, spol. s.r.o. The project is inspired by the European type of "From-rails-to-trails" projects, transforming former railways - forest, narrow-gauge or service railways into cycle paths or cycling routes.
Vybudovaný úsek cyklistickej komunikácie je dlhý vyše 6,5 km so šírkou 3 m (šírka jazdného pruhu 1,5 m), ktorý kopíruje trasu bývalej lesnej železnice. Cykloželeznička je obojsmerná (t.j. má 2 jazdné pruhy) s asfaltovým povrchom je vhodný pre cyklistov ale aj korčuliarov.
