According to the oral tradition, in 996 St. Vojtech stopped in the territory of Vojňany and baptized the local inhabitant Eden. The first Christian church was built in his honour. In the 1st half of the 14th century. In the 14th century, the Vojňanč inhabitants built a one-nave Roman Catholic church in the Gothic style near the foundations of the first church, dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. Inside there was originally a box altar made after 1300. Today it is located in the Slovak National Gallery. The oldest document from the life of the church has been preserved (1363), in which Spiš Prepost Benedict confirms the letter of Spiš Prepost Nicholas of 9 May 1355, by which he determines the amount and due dates of church dues for the inhabitants of Vojniany.
