By the end of 2018, a 230 km long cycling circuit should connect Slovak and Polish spa border towns and cities. The project will cost more than EUR 5 million in total and is co-financed by the European Union. The activities also include the purchase of elements of small architecture, the creation of an information system and a mobile application.
On the Slovak side, the project partners are Ľubovnian Regional Association of Towns and Municipalities Stará Ľubovňa, the town of Bardejov and OOCR "ŠARIŠ"- Bardejov. The Polish side is represented by the Association of Krynica-Poprad and Szczawnica Municipalities. The project is implemented within the framework of the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A Poland-Slovakia 2014-2020, sEU semi-financing is 85 %. The official title of the project is "Spa of the Polish-Slovak border area, an identifiable European area of tourism promoting health development - 1st stage - construction of a cycle circuit connecting the spa towns of the Poprad valley." The project implementation period is 24 months (02.01.2017 - 31.12.2018) a cthe value added of the project is EUR 5 187 225,80.
"The project will bring rthe implementation of joint activities whose the aim is to increase the identifiability of the brand of the Polish-Slovak border region spa. At the same time, a common cross-border spa product will improve bankruptcy participating Slovak and Polish spas. The 230.91 km long cycling circuit will connect unique opportunities in the field of tourism, medical and rehabilitation services that take advantage of the natural and landscape values, multicultural heritage and the spirituality and traditions of the inhabitants of the area concerned," said Radomír Jančošek, director of the Regional Tourism Organization "ŠARIŠ"- Bardejov.
The cycle route will run partly along existing routes (including the EuroVelo route), partly along routes intended for demarcation and construction, through the most precious natural and landscape areas (national parks and reserves), past the most important monuments of wooden architecture and mineral water springs. The activities include not only the construction of a 230.91 km long cycle circuit, as well as the purchase of elements of small architecture, creating information system, Also mobile application.
"We expect from the project economic revival of both sides of the Slovak-Polish border area around the Poprad River valley through joint development of spa towns. One of the objectives is also the creation of a Polish-Slovak tourist product for better use of the cultural and natural heritage of the border region," Jančošek added.
Where to go in Bardejov and surroundings
The surroundings of Bardejov and Bardejov Spa have become an attractive location for children and adults cyclists, runners and hikers and for family tourism in the last three years. Last October, the spa and its surroundings added the following third healing singletrack called Medical singletrack, is designed for families with children and is therefore also called FAMILY singletrack. The length of the five interconnected trails, built and maintained, totals more than 8 km. It consists of three healing singletracks - Medical, Napoleon a Čerešenka, Kyslíková cesta Mihaľov - Bardejov a Kyslíková dráha v Bardejovských Kúpeľoch. Všetky trasy sú už plne funkčné, označené a v súčasnosti už využívané verejnosťou na cykloturistiku, cvičenia, pešie túry a prechádzky.Dĺžka značených turistických chodníkov v okolí kúpeľov dosahuje 35 km.

Atraktívnosť kúpeľov zvýšila aj obnovená rozhľadňa Bardejov Kamenná Hora a oddychová a športová zóna pre deti v kúpeľoch.
Najlákavejšími destináciami regiónu OOCR „ŠARIŠ“- Bardejov sú Bardejovské kúpele, a.s., mesto UNESCO Bardejov a od vlani aj Svidník s Duklou. Bardejov je historické mesto zapísané do zoznamu Svetového kultúrneho a prírodného dedičstva UNESCO. Právom sa hrdí opakovanými prvenstvami v súťaži o Najkrajšie mesto Slovenska. Návštevníci tu môžu obdivovať Radničné námestie s nádhernými gotickými meštianskymi domami, Bazilikou minor Sv. Egídia, s bývalou Mestskou radnicou - prvou stavbou renesancie na území Slovenska. Najnavštevovanejším podujatím v regióne je tradičný Bardejovský jarmok, ktorý sa koná v auguste v Bardejove.
K lákadlám regiónu patrí aj Prírodná expozícia Vojenského múzea vo Svidníku
V Bardejovských Kúpeľoch sa počas roka konajú atraktívne podujatia, ako sú Otvorenie kúpeľnej sezóny, Alžbetínsky deň, Folklórny festival, Pivný festival, Hornošarišský Vínny festival. Areál kúpeľov je každý deň otvorený aj pre širokú verejnosť. Hostia majú na výber aj z dvoch wellness komplexov. Väčšie Wellness SPA - bazénový a saunový svet je v hoteli Ozón a menšie je v kongresovom štvorhviezdičkovom hoteli Alexander.
K atrakciám severovýchodného Slovenska patrí i SVIDNÍK, ktorý je centrom podduklianskeho regiónu. V meste je vodný svet Aquaruthenia Svidník s krytými bazénami a wellness. K najnavštevovanejším miestam regiónu patrí Pamätník na Dukle.
