Fountain with the statue of charity in Levoca

The statue of charity, which stands in the Municipal Park in Levoča, represents a woman giving a piece of bread to a child.

The statue was together with the fountain made with money donated to the city by a prominent Levoča citizen, patron and merchant Gustáv Herman. His only condition was that the water from the fountain should flow in all directions, as if goodness and love should flow in all directions from the hearts of the citizens of the town. They were known for their generosity and, in the spirit of Christian virtues, they also cared to support the sick and the poor.

In Levoca, thanks to the generosity of Gustav Herman, one third of the hospital and some of the then schools were also built.
