An interesting and historically significant tip for a trip is the museum of the Tokajica tragedy and the memorial which is a memento of this terrible event. It is important not to forget the events that are part of the history of Slovakia as well as the individual regions.
The village of Tokajík is located in the Stropkov district. In the village Tokajík in the north-east of Slovakia there is an exposition of the SNP Museum called Fascist repressions in eastern Slovakia. On 19 November 1944, 32 innocent men were murdered by fascists in Tokajik. Two remained alive as witnesses to the horrible, inhuman, but bestial fascist atrocity. On 12 December 1944, at the request of Medvedz and Stropkovský, citizens from neighbouring Piskorovce came and buried the victims in a common grave at the site of the murder. After returning from the evacuation, the relatives requested the exhumation of the murdered victims so that they could bury them in the traditional way. Twenty-seven houses and 28 outbuildings were burned. On 4 April 1945, a funeral for the victims was held in the municipal cemetery, attended by many people from the surrounding villages.
Opposite the Museum of the Tokajik Tragedy there is a memorial dedicated to the victims of fascist repression in the village of Tokajik, who were murdered during the burning of the village on 20 November 1944. The northeast of Slovakia is rich in interesting sites that are historically linked to both the First and Second World War. Among the most famous areas, apart from the village of Tokajík, are the Dukla Battlefield and the Dukla Memorials, which are visited by thousands of tourists every year.
