The most architecturally typical buildings of the Levoca Square include, besides the St. James Church, the Town Hall. The town council decided not only the fate of the town and its inhabitants, but also the fate of the whole surrounding area. Over the centuries, the exhibition spaces have witnessed many important decisions and meetings.
The building was probably built around the middle of the 15th century. It acquired its present appearance after the reconstruction in 1893 - 1895, which was carried out by Fridrich Schulek and Benedik Jaumann.
The former town hall now houses Spiš Museum with eye-catching expositions. The town hall is exhibition dedicated to the history of the town of Levoča - its origins, development, heyday and present. Works of historical and art-historical character are combined with examples of rich guild production.
The permanent exhibition space is complemented by exhibition hall for thematic and occasional exhibitions. In 2000 the exhibition space was enriched with "Small exhibition hall", where exhibitions of a study and chamber nature are presented to the public, with a non-traditional approach to the exhibited works.
Historic Town Hall is one of the most visited expositions in Levoca. It is interesting not only from the historical, architectural or museum exhibition point of view, but also as a space where the public meets interesting people, whether at openings, concerts or at lectures from the successful series "Views into the Past".
