The initiative of the faithful and the then parish priest Jan Švec-Bilý was parish garden in Hanušovce nad Topľou in 1995 converted into a Calvary. 14 wooden crosses were planted in the ground and 14 families from the parish signed a pledge to take care of them. In 2004, construction began on Calvary Chapelwhich was consecrated in 2007.
During the Lenten season, regular services are held at Calvary every Sunday afternoon. cross roads with a large participation of the faithful. On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is on 14 September, an indulgenced Holy Mass is celebrated in the Calvary Chapel, as well as the Feast of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, which always falls on the following day.
The interior of the chapel at Hanušovská Calvary is decorated with wooden cross and wooden sculpture of the Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows. In the chapel there is also a solid stone altar and an ambo.
In addition to the fact that the Calvary in Hanušovce nad Topľou has become a place of the Stations of the Cross and religious services, especially in the summer months it is more and more often used for walking and relaxation. In the shade of the trees and in the beneficial silence that its surroundings offer, one can regain not only spiritual but also physical strength. Occasionally, groups of primary school pupils, confirmands or children preparing for their first Holy Communion can also be found at Calvary, using the place for a demonstration catechesis with their catechists.
