The Demjat Hills Nature Reserve, declared protected in 1982, is located in the eastern part of the Šariš Highlands between Demjata and Veľký Slivník.
It is made up of limestone hills scattered in the agricultural landscape, which are part of the chinstrap. Surrounded by flysch uplands, they significantly increase the diversity of the landscape.
Thermophilic and arid-loving communities have evolved on the calcareous substrate. From rarer tree species here we can find the common dogwood (Cornus mas), the common barberry (Berberis vulgaris) or the common elderberry (Sorbus torminalis). Z Herbs Linum tenuifolium, Pulsatilla grandis, Aster amelloides and Anemone sylvestris. The red ragwort (Echium rubrum) - a Pannonian species - has the northernmost locality in Slovakia.
