The Dunajec Gorge is one of the protected zones of the Pieniny National Park and one of the favourite tourist destinations in the surroundings of Červený Kláštor. The area is characterized by high natural and landscape-aesthetic value.
The Dunajec breakthrough is an almost 8 km long breakthrough section of this river in the Pieniny Mountains near the village of Červený Kláštor. At the same time creates a 7 km long Slovak-Polish state border.
He also leads here hiking trailwhich is also an excursion and educational route with 10 stops. The beauty of the breakthrough can also be admired at rafting on the Danube, which is one of the most sought-after activities.
The territory is interesting for its colourful flowers. Species such as Arabca pienina, Chrysanthemum pienina, Mustard pienina, Dandelion pienina and others are abundantly represented. A varied mosaic is also formed by forest communitieswhich have preserved their original character in most of the territory. Among the rarer species, juniper and yew are represented.
The fauna is characterised by several remarkable zoogeographical features. There are mountain deer, mountain boar, lynx, lynx, birds such as wood finch, mallard, nightingale and herring gull. The watercourse is inhabited by the river otter, the brook trout and the eastern Mediterranean barbel, which reaches the western limit of its distribution in Slovakia.
