The development of the parish church in Stropkov from a castle chapel was preceded by many stages of reconstruction. It was for spatial reasons or as a result of unexpected events that marked it. The presbytery of the church dates from the 14th century and the three-aisled nave with a newly built tower from the 15th century. The opening of the present large oratory dates from the late 19th century.
The triple nave is connected to the sanctuary through a broken triumphal arch. The entire vaulted system of the triple nave rests on two internal pillars. The church tower has seven storeys. In 1675 (at the same time as the construction of the monastery church), a major reconstruction of the castle Gothic church began, which gave the parish church essentially its present form. The 50-60s of the 18th century (1750-1760) were marked by modifications of the parish church: 1754 - a new altar of PM Škapuliarská was made by the Košice painter Henrik Schweitzer; 1759 - the choir and organ were built; 1760 - statues for the new altar were made by the Košice carver Jozef Hartman; 1760 - a statue of St. Florian was added to the statue of John of Nepomuk in the town square (1760). In 1786 a sacristy was added to the north wall of the church.
Less than 20 years later, in 1805, the church was renovated and whitewashed. In 1847 a new large bell of Peter and Paul was cast by the Prešov bell-maker Pavol Schmitz. In December 1945, after the passing of the front, it was a sad sight to see some of the destroyed houses and also the Roman Catholic parish church.In the following years, the church underwent minor or major repairs, which changed its appearance to its present form.
