Wooden temple, Varadka

The wooden church of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God, which is a national cultural monument, decorates the village of Varadka since the 18th century.

História kostolíka bola postihnutá príchodom prvej svetovej vojny – bol jednou z mnohých stavieb, ktoré boli v tomto období destroyed. However, in 1924 the inhabitants of the village built a new temple zasedený v kamenných základoch.

The original wooden Greek-Catholic church in the village of Varadka was built in the second half of the 18th century. It was dedicated to the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God. There are two theories about its demise. The first one says that the temple was destroyed in the First World War, according to the second theory it happened already in 1827. A new wooden church of the same dedication was built in 1924.

Hoci nie je celý z dreva a má plechovú strechu, stále je považovaný za jeden z najkrajších drevených kostolíkov v okrese Bardejov.

There are three bells in the tower of the church. On the roof there is a decorative original Greek-Catholic cross. The temple is characterized by relatively high windows.

In the interior of the temple in Varadka there is double-row iconostasiswhich has not been completed, therefore has no artistic value. It is believed to have been built in great haste. It contains the four main icons of St. Nicholas the Bishop, the Mother of God Hodigitria, Christ the Teacher and the icon of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God.

The Tsar's door is atypical with four icons of evangelists. The deacon's door is not fitted. In the second row there is an unrelated icon, or rather an image of the Holy Family and the Last Supper. The third row contains icons of the individual apostles. The termination of the iconostasis is atypical with two panels of the Decalogue.

The wooden church of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God in Varadka was transferred from the original Greek-Catholic ownership to the wooden church of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God in Varadka by a decree of 2000. ownership of the Orthodox Church.
