Wooden church, Matysová (Stará Ľubovňa)

The wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel dates back to 1833. It originally stood in the nearby village of Matysová. It was repaired in 1938 and after the construction of the brick church of Sts. Peter and Paul
in Matysova it was possible to start with the plan of moving the original church to a new location.

In 1979 it was moved to the premises of the Museum of Folk Architecture under the Old Ljubljana Castle. After its rededication in 1990, services of the Eastern Rite are held here on important religious holidays.

The three-part log building is all shingled on the outside, including the walls. In front of the entrance there is a cross (a copy from 1912) with a carved relief of the symbols of the Passion. One larger (western) and two smaller turrets protrude from the roof. The turrets above the nave and the sanctuary are similar, with a two-armed cross above the nave and a single-armed one above the sanctuary. Originally there were three bells in the main tower, but they were moved to the brick church in Matysova before the wooden church was transferred to the open-air museum.

The interior of the church is decorated with an iconostasis, which dates from the mid-18th century and comes from an older and smaller church. Some of the icons (St. Peter and Paul, St. Michael, Christ Pabtocrator) are from the 17th century. There is also a rare painting of the Mother of God in the altar dated 1693.
