Wooden temple, Korejovce

Greek-Catholic wooden church of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God in Korejovce in Svidník district was built in 1764.

The village of Korejovce together with the church was badly damaged during World War II, in 1944. It was mainly the roof, which broke and fell off during the explosion. The Tsar's door was also damaged by the explosion. Subsequently, after the end of the war, the wooden church was repaired in 1947.

In terms of construction, it is a three-part, three-space, three-towered church with three crosses. It is built on a stone foundation, which increases towards the western part. The temple structure is classical log, the towers are columned. Above each of the three bulbs on the tower there is a decorative three-armed cross. The roof is covered with hand-split shingles.

Iconostasis has an atypical four-aisle architecture. It probably comes from the original wooden church in Krajna Bystra, which no longer exists. The icons from the second row - the row of feasts and the third apostolic row come from the 18th century. The iconostasis underwent a complete restoration in 1999-2002.

On the south side of the wooden temple in Korejovce is built separate wooden belfry with a simple three-armed cross on the tower. The roof is pyramidal and covered with shingles. Three bells from 1769, 1771 and 1996 are hanging in the belfry. Instead of the last one, there was originally a bell from 1835, but it was damaged (shot through) and lost its sound. Therefore, a new bell was cast instead.
