Wooden church, Brezany

The Greek Catholic wooden church of St. Luke in Brežany was built in 1727. After the inhabitants of the village converted to the Western rite in the 1950s, the church began to be used for the needs of the Roman Catholic faithful, although it remained the property of the Greek Catholic Church.

Chrámový objekt je zo stavebného hľadiska trojdielny, trojmiestny, jednovežový s dvoma krížmi. Loď a svätyňa má zrubovú konštrukciu, veža stĺpovú. Medzery medzi jednotlivými trámami sú zašpárované a vybielené. Strecha v tvare pyramídy je prekrytá šindľami. Vo veži chrámu sú v súčasnosti zavesené dva zvony. Na vrchole osadený ozdobný trojramenný kríž je svojím tvarom jedným z najkrajších zo všetkých chrámov eparchie.

The wooden church in Brežany was partially restored in 1999 and also in 2001. The interior of the church dates from the first half of the 18th century, the iconostasis with four-row architecture dates from 1733. Its uniqueness lies in the omission of the classic Crucifixion or at least the cross, which normally terminates the iconostasis in the middle of the top.

From the furnishings it is worth mentioning the altar with the image of the Coronation of the Mother of God from 1782, the side altar with the image of Pieta and the side altar with the image of Christ from the second half of the 18th century. Also worth mentioning is the icon of Aaron inside the deacon's, i.e. service, door.
