Rázovitá goralská obec Ždiar s charakteristickými, dnes už prevažne zrekonštruovanými drevenicami učarovala nie jednému návštevníkovi. Je vyhľadávaná predovšetkým kvôli zimným športom, ale aj letnému oddychu v zdravej prírode s lákavým pohľadom na Belianske Tatry. Neďalekú Bachledovu dolinu preslávila v posledných rokoch atrakcia Chodník korunami stromov.
The easy walking tour in Ždiar, leading around the Biela stream in the Monkova valley, is especially popular with undemanding tourists or families with children. It leads along paved roads and quality trails, which are easy to navigate. The hike starts in the middle of the village from Ždiarski house, which is a typical example of wooden folk architecture, where we take the main street westwards. At the crossroads, turn left onto a short connecting road and follow it down to the bus stop. Cross over the main road and take a minor road leading to the hotel. Magura. The path is marked with green hiking signs. The meadow in front of the hotel provides a magnificent view of the Belianske Tatras with the hills Havran (2151 m) and Ždiarska vidla (2142 m). At the upper end of the meadow we enter the forest. Along the Biela stream we reach the crossroads to Monk's Valley (930 m).
The route of the trip does not continue on the difficult way up the Monk's valley, but follows the green trail up the narrowed part of the valley of the Biela stream, which arcs around the not high hill Plošové Turne (1080 m). After the bend the road turns north and climbs to the ski area Strednica (1020 m).
On the vast meadow, which is crowded with skiers in winter, an unrepeatable panorama opens up again on the south side Belianske Tatras. On the northern side of the Strednica area runs the busy Freedom Road. At the bus stop, a minor road turns off from it, which turns at a right angle by the stream and enters the upper end of the village. Following this road, we continue our walk in the village of Ždiar, during which we see historically valuable clusters of houses. Some are protected as monuments of folk architecture.
