Hrebienok (1 285 m above sea level) is located at the south-eastern foot of Slavkovský štít above Starý Smokovec. Since the middle of the 19th century, spa guests from Starý Smokovec liked to visit this popular place. In 1894, a hard-surfaced roadway (later a motorway) and in 1908 a funicular railway were built alongside the ancient tourist trail.
