The Habur peat bog, which is a watershed peat bog of the upland type, is the only one of its kind on the territory of the Slovak section of the Eastern Carpathians.
The nature reserve is located in the Laborecka Upland at an altitude of 695 m above sea level on an area of 1.34 ha. It also has its continuation on the Polish side, with an area of about 5 ha.
The Habur Peat Bog Nature Reserve is significant for the occurrence of isolated peatland and wetland communities. Represented are, for example, peat bog or kneeless white. The scrub willow community is also widespread, with the rarer Sliezska willow also found in places.
The territory of the nature reserve is also an important reptile habitat, especially the northern viper. In addition, some rare butterfly species, for example, the greater and lesser spotted flamingo. Of the vertebrates, the marsh vole can be encountered.
