In the High Tatras, in the upper part of the Little Cold Valley, there is the lake Modré pleso. It lies at an altitude of 2192 m, which makes it the highest lake in the Tatras. Its area is 0.400 ha and it is 73 m long and wide. The maximum depth is 4.5 m. The Blue Lake is covered with snow and ice until summer. It drains the Little Cold Stream, which is part of the Poprad River basin. The amazing natural scenery is completed by the surroundings of the lake. In the north-east, the Ice Ridge proudly towers above it, in the north-west are Sedielko and Široká veža, in the south there is a view of the Transverse Saddle.
Tourist route
Hiking on the Blue Mountain is only possible from 16 June to 31 October. It is reached by a green hiking trail that connects the Malá Studená dolina with the Javorová valley. The ascent leads from Téry's chalet and takes 45 minutes. Téry's hut is also an ideal place for accommodation and social services.

Visitors to the Blue Lake have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Little Cold Valley. This terraced natural phenomenon has a length of 4.5 km and is bordered by the Lomnické saddle from the east, the Prostredný ridge from the west and the Basin of Five Spišské Plies, which lies at its end. The Little Cold Stream flows through the valley. The Yellow Wall and the Yellow Tower are ideal places for mountaineering and ski mountaineers will enjoy the beauty of Dolinka pod Sedielkem.
