Summer trains in the Prešov Region

July 2, Prešov - Summer seasonal trains will be available to visitors of the Prešov Region this season as well. The Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with ZSSK and regional tourism organisations will dispatch 58 special summer trains on 12 lines throughout Slovakia. The services will run to exceptional regions from 3 July to 19 September 2021. The Prešov Region will be affected by one third of the announced train connections.

UNESCO more accessible again

Summer trains in the Prešov Region concern four lines, namely the routes Spišská Nová Ves - Levoča, Prešov - Banská Bystrica, Prešov - Stará Ľubovňa and Prešov - Stakčín. The latter connection is a novelty this year and an attraction for hiking and cycling enthusiasts who like to be charmed by the through the virgin nature of the easternmost national park in Slovakia - NP Poloniny, where they will find the Carpathian beech forests included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List. The target station is the town of Stakčín, the gateway to the Poloniny National Park.

The town of Levoča can also boast UNESCO heritage. The former metropolis of Spiš is one of the most visited tourist towns in Slovakia. Behind the mighty walls there are more than 300 immovable national cultural monuments in the town conservation area.

The town of Stará Ľubovňa with its dominant feature, Ľubovniansky Castle, remains a great attraction. On the route Prešov - Stará Ľubovňa it will be possible to change to the train connection to Muszyna in Poland. Seasonal trains on the route Poprad-Tatry - Plaveč - Muszyna will also be operated by ZSSK from 3 July 2021 according to the valid timetable https://www.zssk.sk/vlakova-linka-poprad-tatry-muszyna/
