POPRAD (December 9) - Motorists will once again receive a gift from the local government for Christmas. Parking in Poprad's municipal car parks will be free of charge over Christmas.
Stickers on parking meters will inform motorists about how to park. Charged parking lots around the square in Poprad break the heads of motorists all year round who have nowhere to park their cars. "It's annoying, you want to get to work, or just to run errands, and if you don't pay, you have to park much further away," said Zuzana Horváthová, a resident of Poprad. "When I go to the city, I would prefer to prepay for a parking space, but since it costs a lot of money that I can't cut from my budget, I prefer to say goodbye, park somewhere farther away and take a walk," said Jozef Feriňák.
Up to 1 000 seats will be available
However, the search for a place to stop your car temporarily freezes the most beautiful holiday of the year. The Poprad municipality is once again coming to the aid of visitors in the city centre. Already a week and a half before Christmas, i.e. from 15 December, it is abolishing the collection of parking fees in the city car parks managed by the city roads. "In total, almost 1,000 parking spaces will be available," said Peter Fabian from the Poprad City Roads Administration.
Ramps will be turned off
The unattended ramp system will be turned off, as will the parking meters. According to Fabian, motorists will be informed about the special regime by stickers on the parking meters, which will be made in 3 languages, English, Polish and Slovak. The parking lots will be charged again in the standard regime from 7 January 2015. This move is made by the City Hall every year just to meet the needs of visitors who want to enjoy the Christmas decorations. St. Aegidius Square will be the venue of several events during the holidays as part of Poprad Christmas 2014. There will be concerts, a fair, a live nativity scene, theatrical performances with Christmas themes, and a small mobile ice rink is also in operation on the square.
