Unique Slovak opal mines
Not far behind Prešov in the Slanské hory mountains there are Slovak opal minesthat are unique in the world. It is the oldest and most extensive opal mine not only in Slovakia, but also in the world. Visitors have the opportunity to walk through the mysterious mine corridors, learning interesting facts about Slovakia's only gemstone, the life of miners and local legends.
The summer holidays will close with a special event where children up to the age of 15 can experience The search for the opal (1. 9. 2019) in front of the Jozef Shed. The Cohors Prešov Historical Fencing Group will also perform in front of the mine and there will be a surprise for children.
Summer at Šariš Castle
The flight at [trip:3802;Šariš Castle] inherently includes Movie Night (19. - 21. 7.). The only film festival in Slovakia taking place in a castle brings quality art, supports young filmmakers and offers a full-fledged programme for the whole family. In addition to films, you can also enjoy various concerts, workshops, a children's programme, exhibitions, lectures, theatres and readings during the Film Night.
In August, sports lovers will meet at the castle during a cross-country race Castle Mile (11 August 2019), which will take place in the castle grounds. A historical and theatrical show is also a tradition Šariš Castle Games (25 August 2019), there will be fencing duels, theatres, a knight tournament, period music and falconers. Hiking and running events in Lipany and its surroundings
In July 2019, hiking enthusiasts will be able to climb the 14-metre high observation tower, located on the mountain massif Balažka (643 m above sea level). From this place there is a magnificent view of the town of Lipany and the whole basin. You can combine a visit to the lookout tower with easy hiking along the two basic hiking circuits of Balažka.
Circuit of the Little Rock offers a beautiful place to relax by the cross with seating and barbecue facilities. Tourists will be able to see an Italian well, partisan trenches, a geological phenomenon - a microwave, as well as climb the Little Rock itself. Within the route you will be able to learn interesting information about the mountain massif, fauna and flora of the area, as well as about individual points of interest along the route. The information boards also provide information about the railway line that skirts the massif and divides it into the so-called "Little Rock" and "Big Rock" in the eastern part.
Circuit of the Big Rock offers a route along the Balažka ridge, both routes are interconnected and have several connection points. Athletes can measure their strength during the 18th edition of the run To the top of Minchola (9 June 2019) or 5th year of the Hornotorys Run through Demianka (22 September 2019), which starts in Krásná Lúka and ends in Lipany.
Hikers and nonhikers, simply everyone who loves nature can meet during 30th Meeting of tourists from four districts Prešov, Sabinov, Bardejov and Stara Ľubovňa at the highest point of the Čergov Mountains at Minčola (15 September 2019). They can not only admire the beautiful views, but also meet friends and attend the Holy Mass on the Feast of the Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows. In mid-October, there will also be a 30th year of the Autumn walk through Demianka (13. 10. 2019).
