New attraction in the Slanské hills

PREŠOV 6 August 2019 - Near Prešov in the Slanské hills, an unusual installation will be created in the embrace of trees. We are talking about a special wooden megaphone, which, thanks to its shape, multiplies the sounds of the forest and you can enjoy an unadulterated natural orchestra. Such an attraction is unparalleled in Central and Western Europe.

Four young people from the civic association Voice of the Forest came up with the idea of creating a megaphone.

"Our effort is to raise the profile of places that deserve our attention. We would like to introduce lesser known sites in nature to the public. We believe that with the wooden megaphone we will be able to attract people to nature and thus promote tourism in the whole region." said František Baláž, one of the authors of the project.

A wooden megaphone, which will stand near the cycle path connecting Prešov with the surrounding villages, has the shape of a nine-sided needle. As Balazs explained, the installation of the megaphone is a simplification of the rotating paraboloid. "A paraboloid has a property that concentrates the rays and waves reflected from its walls into a single point. A person sitting near this point will hear the amplified sounds coming from the surroundings and can comfortably listen to what the forest is telling him," said the young nature lover. A similar attraction exists only in Estonia.

Authors think about that the installation does not have a bad effect on the harmony of the forest and fit into its natural environment. They will use wood and smaller metal connecting parts. The overall dimensions of the structure should not exceed 4,2 metres in length and 2,5 metres in height and width. The project is being built with the support of the municipality of Zlatá Bana and the Birell brand, which covered the financial costs of the construction. "We are delighted that Birell can stand by the way of unique experiences, which undoubtedly includes this wooden megaphone. In addition to the actual construction, we still have a few more modifications to make. The public will be able to enjoy this beautiful natural attraction at the end of August," added Birell brand manager Josef Jalůvka.
