Malá Domasa, May 18 - Interest in staying at the Veľká Domasa reservoir is growing. Slovaks want to spend their summer holidays in domestic tourist destinations. Slovakia is doing well in the fight against the pandemic and the government is easing restrictions. The start of the holiday season in seaside resorts is still indefinite. Roman Berkeš, president of the Slovak Association of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators, expects it to move to the end of June or mid-July. However, it is already more or less certain that Slovak holidaymakers will rather avoid relaxing by the sea this season.
Experts recommend spending your summer holidays in Slovakia, which will also help the economy. Increased demand for accommodation in recreational areas in Domáš and its surroundings is already noticeable today. According to the administrator of www.e-domasa.sk/ Dominik Petro, Traffic to the site, which creates a database of private accommodation options, increased by 40 % in April compared to the same period last year. The jump in accommodation enquiries over the past two weeks is even more marked - up 61 % - and interest is growing further.
Jaroslav Špička, who also rents out his cottage in Domáš for accommodation, has a full calendar of future guests. He had the cottage occupied this weekend as well. Private accommodation is not a tradition in the region, but J. Špička has taken it up because it will help tourism and local development.
Increased demand for accommodation in the cottages of the Tíšava campsite is registered by its operator Pavol Pelák. Matúš Michľo, who manages the Monica Camp & Glamp at the Poľany resort, also confirms the high interest in the possibility of accommodation. He adds that almost all the parking spaces are occupied by caravans. Their owners usually rented the space for the entire summer season, so the campground had to set aside a zone for visitors who prefer to vacation under a tent.
Domaša and its surroundings will probably experience a comeback of tourist interest this season. However, the fact is that the additional services and infrastructure no longer meet the current criteria for a quality holiday. Investments come slowly, the exception being activities in the Dobrá recreation area, which belongs to the Kvakovce municipality. Its mayor, Radovan Kapraľ, returned the cruise ship Bohemia to the surface of the dam last year and this year he is building a stable pier for it. Other municipalities around Domáš are also trying to invest in tourism, but within the limits of their possibilities.
