Public race Štrbské cross-country skiing again with No Name

Cross-country skiing fans of all ages can once again look forward to the traditional competitive and cultural cross-country skiing programme. The ninth edition of the public race Štrbské skis will start on 2 April 2023 in the Cross-Country Skiing Area at Štrbské Pleso. The race was originally planned for 4 February, but was postponed due to bad weather. The event is held under the auspices of the music group No Name and the band's frontman Igor Timko will be at the starting line.

For all cross-country skiers, the organizers will prepare a two and five-kilometre track on which various international competitions are held every year. The race will be free technique with mass start and there will be a classic track on the track. The names of the winners on the 5 km course will be inscribed on the Štrbské Ski Cross Country Skiing Trophy. For the pupils there will be a 700 m obstacle course SnowKidz cross sprint with an interval start. This popular sprint between obstacles such as slalom, various turns, undercutting, etc. can be tried free of charge by all registered participants. Everyone who passes the finish line will receive a participation medal and will be entered into a raffle for attractive prizes. Children up to 10 years of age can also win small prizes on the short flat course with small obstacles and the smallest children can come and try the children's cross-country skiing free of charge. The atmosphere will be enhanced by a DJ and a concert by the music group AMIRAL. Event partners will present various sports material and clothing in the area.

Throughout the year 2023, several events will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Sports Classes at the Primary School in Štrba, which have been continuously educating cross-country skiers since the school year 1972/73. Many graduates of the sports classes have successfully represented Slovakia and Czechoslovakia at world cups, world championships, winter Olympics and many of them are still working as referees and organizers of races at Štrbské Pleso. At the same time, 100 years of competitive skiing in Štrba will be celebrated. It is these important milestones that will be visualized on the participant's medal and the event will also be attended by athletes, coaches and supporters of the sports classes, who will move to Štrba in the afternoon for the festive program.

The organizer of the race is the Štrba Sports Club, the Štrba Municipality and the Regional Tourism Organization of the High Tatras Region. Volunteer organizers from Štrba are involved in the preparation of the event, who in January organized the international FIS Tatra Cup cross-country ski race and in March will welcome competitors at the Slovak Republic Championship. The event is realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic.
