Winter is in full swing and we have no shortage of snow. What about a few tips on where to go skiing and cross-country skiing?Here is our selection from the northern Spiš and Pieniny.
Cross-country skiing
Under favourable snow conditions, the region of northern Spiš and Pieniny offers cross-country skiing trails for cross-country skiing enthusiasts:
- Small Pieniny Circuit in the area of the Spa Červený Kláštor Smerdžonka - easy circuit 1,5 km
- Route through the Dunajec River - easy cross-country skiing trail, suitable for families with children, which leads from Červený Kláštor to the village of Lesnica and back in the length of 7.5 km (15 miles)
- Route Lesnica - Červený Kláštor and back - a challenging cross-country trail for experienced and hardy cross-country skiers, which leads mostly through the forest from the village of Lesnica to Červený Kláštor, 4.4 km (8.8 mi) in length
- Route Vyšné Ružbachy - Kamienka - a moderately demanding cross-country trail with a circuit length of 11.5 km.
- Circuit in the village Kamienka - easy cross-country trail in the village of Kamienka with a circuit length of 10 km
- Circuit Ľubovnianske kúpele - a moderately demanding circuit along the route of the European top dog sled dogs with nice views of the whole valley with a circuit length of 7 km.
- Route Stará Ľubovňa - Hniezdne - easy cross-country skiing trail suitable for families with children along the Poprad River from Stará Ľubovňa to Hniezdne to Nestville Park and back with a circuit length of 6.6 km
- Circuit through the forest park below Ľubovňa Castle - moderately demanding cross-country trail with a circuit length of 3.5 km
- Lesnica - in front of the pension Chata Pieniny there are 10 km of groomed cross-country tracks
Where to ski:
Skipark Vyšné Ružbachy
Ski resort with slopes for demanding but also beginner skiers. There are four lifts. The season is long thanks to the favourable climatic conditions of Spišská Magura, so you can ski on well-groomed slopes even in the first days of spring. It is possible to rent complete ski equipment in the area. There is a ski storage room, ski service and ski school.
XPARK Stará Ľubovňa
XPARK is a sports, recreational and multifunctional complex focused mainly on freestyle sports. It is the only snowpark in Slovakia built directly in the town of Stara Ľubovňa.
SKICOMP FAKĽOVKA Litmanová
The ski area above the village of Litmanová offers terrain for recreational and demanding skiers with different slopes and profiles of downhill runs at altitudes from 690 to 920 m. At an elevation of 280 m there are 5 ski lifts. The ski slopes are artificially snow-covered and illuminated. From the top of Fakľovka (945 m) there is a nice view of the surrounding countryside and the High Tatras.
Ski resort Ľubovnianske Kúpele
The resort with three ski lifts is suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers, with slopes equipped with technical snowmaking and evening lighting. Below the peak of Vysoká there is a ski lift (length 700 m, vertical drop 190 m) with intermediate and difficult slopes, where only natural snow is skied. In the resort you will find a ski school, ski service and ski rental.
