Further investments are planned in Bardejov Spa

Bardejov Spa/Presov (20. 9. 2017) - The Bardejov Spa is waiting for the renewal of the Dukla Hotel, a golf course and outdoor wellness. Over the last ten years, the Bardejov Spa has invested about EUR 15 million in its development, including medical care, accommodation and sports facilities for clients. The spa management's development plans include the renovation of the Dukla Hotel and its extension, the construction of a 9-hole golf course, the outdoor wellness of the Ozón Hotel, with new parking areas, a new promenade and a distinctive "Sharišská karčma".

"We count on further modernization of the capacities to increase the attractiveness of the spa and the number of visitors. The pace of modernisation must be commensurate with the generation of own resources to repay the loans. After the reconstruction of the Alžbeta hotel and the renovation of the Alexander congress hotel, we are waiting for the reconstruction of another historical hotel, which last bore the name of Dukla," said Jaroslav Komora, CEO of Bardejovské kúpele, a. s.

Hotel Dukla is a national cultural monument, originally called Hotel Sczéchenyi, later Slávia. An architectural study is being prepared. According to Komor, the estimated cost and time of construction cannot be quantified because the technical condition of the building and the extent of the extension are not known. The rough estimate is currently EUR 10 to 12 million."Without the addition, the renovation is not realistic, it would not be recoverable. Only in conjunction with a completely new extension for about 150 people, where underground garages are also planned, balneological and restaurant services and reception for both parts, is this investment profitable. Financing will depend on the business plan, which we will develop soon. However, the start of the reconstruction cannot be expected before two years."

The Dukla Hotel, a national cultural monument, was built in 1895, but it is currently non-functional and dilapidated. The current owners of the spa have therefore decided to reconstruct it in accordance with the comments of the monuments. Only the skeleton of the original building will remain and a completely new, modern extension will be added. They plan to extend the building with an extension and connect it to the central part of the spa via a tunnel.

An architectural study has also been prepared golf course with nine holeswhich the spa plans to build on an area of 24 hectares, not far from the entrance to the spa area. The investment, including all the facilities, amounts to approximately EUR 1,2 million. The purchase of land and the consolidation of fragmented land from the owners is currently under way. Design work is also progressing preparation of the promenade, which should lead to the Alžbeta Hotel. In the course of about two years, the plan is also to construction of the outdoor wellness hotel Ozónwhere there should be an outdoor stainless steel swimming pool. The estimated cost is approximately EUR 2 million."We also want to make a peculiar 'Sharisska inn' from one building, which has the status of a national cultural monument," indicated the Chamber.

He also stated that he wanted to negotiate with the town of Bardejov to prepare a joint investment for the construction of a parking house on the current parking lot at the entrance to the spa. At the beginning of the summer, Bardejovské kúpele, a. s. opened two parking lots with a total capacity of 100 spaces, which they built at their own expense.

Bardejovské kúpele, a. s., now has a bed capacity in the main season of 1196 beds in 613 rooms. The number of employees ranges from 245 (+ 92 outsourcing). The spa is the second largest employer in the Bardejov district. In 2016, Bardejov Spa achieved record visitor numbers, with 24,939 clients receiving treatment and recreation, which was 15.79 % more than in 2015. The number of overnight stays also increased by 9 % year-on-year and reached 251,884. This was mainly due to the renewed capacities of the four-star congress hotel Alexander and last year's renovation of the historic Hotel Elizabeth, where Empress Elizabeth, called Sisi, was treated in the past..

The most beautiful building of the spa is the Art Nouveau hotel Astória, which is partially renovated and after complete reconstruction it competes with the renovated hotel Alžbeta. There are 6 tennis courts, mini-golf, bicycle rental, 35 km of marked hiking trails in the spa area. An attraction for visitors is the nearby town of Bardejov, listed on the UNESCO list.
