The pride not only of Šariš, but also of the whole Slovakia is the ancient Bardejov, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Slovak towns. The historic core of the city, together with the Jewish suburb, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. The biggest attractions include the centre of Bardejov itself with Basilica minor of St. Aegidius. Around 50 000 tourists visit it annually.
The Town Hall Square will not escape the attention of the former City Hall, which houses the exhibition Šariš Museum. Townhouses, bells John and Urban or the statue of the executioner complete the atmosphere of this ancient town. Don't miss the Holocaust Memorial, the Jewish suburb or the singing fountain in the wider centre.
John Lennon Alley
The John Lennon Alley in Bardejov arouses interest and enthusiasm among Beatles fans. The alley, the John Lennon Park and the house dedicated to the memory of the genius musician are the work of the enthusiast Pavel Zajac. He has placed three-dimensional graphics and forged artworks on the facade of his family house. In the basement there is a gallery dedicated to the Beatles and John Lennon.
Cyril and Methodius Cross
Above the town of Bardejov towers a 12-metre high cross, which attracts attention from afar. The cross on Šibená hora was erected to commemorate three significant events that influenced the history of our nation - the arrival of Cyril and Methodius in 863, the founding of the Slovak Matrix in 1863 and the establishment of the Slovak Republic in 1993.
Events, health and sport in Bardejov Spa
The Bardejov Spa near Bardejov is especially famous for local baths. The healing water springing in the spa area is unparalleled in Slovakia. In fact, it is not one spring, but ten waters. Each of them has a specific composition and helps for a different range of diseases. The waters are mainly used for drinking cures, mineral baths and inhalations.
Traditionally, people go to the spa not only for health, but also for culture. The most attractive events every year include the Children's Day, the opening of the spa season, the International Music Summer, the Bardejov Spa Days, the Elizabethan Day, the Beer Festival and the Hornošariš Wine Festival.
In the not bypassed nor skanzen, which is managed by the Šariš Museum. It is the oldest open-air museum in Slovakia, it consists of almost 30 objects traditional folk architectureA network of cycle paths, singletrack and hiking trails (give it a bigger title than J. Lennon's Alley, etc.)
There are six interconnected cycling routes in the vicinity of Bardejov, with a length of almost 10 km. They include four healing singletracks - [trip:12035;Lekársky], Napoleon, Čerešenka and Herkules, the Oxygen path Mihaľov - Bardejov and the Oxygen track in Bardejovské Kúpele. Makovica swimming pool
Summer refreshment in the lap of nature can be enjoyed in Nižná Polianka at the natural recreational swimming pool Poppy (from Bardejov 17 km, from Svidník 18 km). The pool has a solid bottom and edges reinforced with concrete blocks, which helps to maintain the water temperature, which in the summer season is 21° - 27° Celsius, depending on the weather. The swimming pool is divided into a section for swimmers and a section for children. The brave can test the diving board.
