For winter experiences in the High Tatras

Discover the magic of snow-covered forests, picturesque hiking trails, the warmth of the wellness centre and excellent ski slopes. The High Tatras region offers many activities throughout the winter season.

You don't have to dream about squeaking snow under your boots and the air filled with the pleasant smell of warm tea anymore. Just head for the highest Slovak mountains and enjoy a holiday full of experiences and adventure. The attraction is not only Tourism, but also still open alpine huts (except Chata pod Rysmi). However, it is also necessary to prepare sufficiently for winter hiking. Do not forget about warm clothes, checking the weather and avalanche danger, warm liquids, winter equipment (crampons) and mountain insurance.

Some chalets, such as the Chalet under Solisko, Bilikova chalet or Skalnata chalet can be visited comfortable cable car even without much effort. The views of the magnificent open panoramas of the ice mountains will fill many a phone's memory. Whether it's a smooth ride several metres above the ground or a land cable car that Queen Elizabeth II rode in, the experience is guaranteed. For a trip to Hrebienok we recommend not to forget the sledge, or you can rent them directly in Stary Smokovec or Hrebienok and go crazy on the 2.5 km toboggan run.

The real challenge is also the coveted Lomnicky Peak. For many years, the cableway has been breaking records and today it is equally captivating with its spectacular views from beneath the steel cables. From the comfort of the red cabin it is possible to observe the the steepest ski slope in Slovakia in Lomnickom saddle.

In the High Tatras there are several ski resorts to choose from. The favourite is Strbské Pleso with an amazing and groomed trail for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing, Tatranská Lomnica with the largest number of slopes for all categories of skiers, and several resorts also offer Ždiar. Ski resorts can be easily reached by ski bus from the foothills and Poprad.

Runners in addition to the slopes under the ski jumps, they will also enjoy quiet locations with modified routes, such as the playground in Vyšné Hágy, the trail between Nová and Tatranská Polianka or the Kolbisko circuit in Tatranská Lomnica. During the winter season you will find more than 64 km of cross-country skiing trails directly in the High Tatras, other tracks are around the town of Poprad.

After a hearty sports activity fits well heated interior galleries, museums or restaurants that are both worth visiting and during bad weather. The offer is wide across the entire Tatra region from Štrbské Pleso to Poprad. You can explore the surroundings from the observation tower, the paradise of pedal cars, the gallery of light, an interactive playroom with a children's transport playground. The museums full of nature, facts and history are also worth mentioning. For culture, you can go for example to historical Spišská Sobotawhere the Church of St. James is located or go out to the church tower Church of St. Aegidius in Poprad and enjoy the view of the snow-capped peaks of the High Tatras.

Tatra Ice Dome

For the tenth time the unique Tatra Ice Dome has grown on Hrebienok. It is made of 225 tons of ice. This season, the theme of the attraction became a unique sacral building - the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
