Cyclopathletes enjoyed the Levoča hills

PREŠOV/LEVOČA (18. 8. 2018) - The Levoča valley and the Levoča hills themselves welcomed the cyclopathletes with pleasant summer weather. Thanks to this, the cyclists were able to enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding nature, including the High Tatras. On 18 August 2018, 104 cyclists enjoyed the cyclo-crawl in the Levoča Mountains.

The fun and cognitive race is organized for the fifth year KOCR Northeast of Slovakia. The aim of the events is to introduce cyclists to individual areas of the Prešov region. The cycling tour in the Levočské hills was the third of this year's series after the Mníchovský potok and Medzilaborce. They will conclude with the Cyclopathon in Prešov and its surroundings on 8 September 2018.

104 competing cyclists met at the start in Autocamp Levoča on August 18th and many of them came to support friends or family members in a non-competitive way. The atmosphere was once again excellent and the weather made for a great cycling experience. KOCR Northeast of Slovakia has invested in the past years in the marking of cycling routes and in the installation of 8 large information boards with tourist maps in the locality. After the abolition of the Javorina military district (2011), more and more tourists are coming to the area. 

Cyclists had a choice again 15 locations of varying difficulty with corresponding point value. There was a 5-hour time limit during which they could collect competition points. The choice of competition places was in the hands of the competitors - according to their abilities and fitness.

Traditionally, competition points were collected through the Discover mobile app. The day before the race, the map and the individual competition locations were available, so it was possible to choose and tactician as early as 24 hours before the race.

Among competition places Levoca could not be missing, specifically the location near the cage of shame. The cyclists were also waiting for a climb up Marianska hora, localization at the Biopool in Levoča valley and the search for the source of Torysa. There were also attractions such as the extinct mining plant in the locality of Uhliská, a memorable meeting place of the Sturu family in the 1930s and 1940s, when Janko Francisci worked at the Levoča Lyceum. They could also discover sites such as the Smelly Mud, the Goat's Hump (ridge), the SNP monument, the displaced village of Dvorce or the Love Bench with a beautiful view in the Javorina - Marčulina section (the top of the Javorina military zone).  

Most competitors met in the categories Men under and over 60 years, Men - solo and mixed pairs. Best performance, all 15 competition places and a total of 505 competition points were won by Marek Grega and Stanislav Haško. Thanks to an excellent time of 4 hours 19 minutes, Marek Grega took home the victory. Stanislav Haško with a time of 4 hours 30 minutes took second place.

Cyclists on the first places received medals and prizes from CTM Bikes a KOCR Northeast of Slovakia.  In addition to the prizes, promotional materials about the Prešov Region were prepared for the cyclists. Materials were also prepared for cyclists on cross-border cooperation between Slovakia and Poland in the framework of the development and promotion of the cross-border cooperation programme Interreg V-A Poland - Slovakia 2014 - 2020.

Cyclopathing culminates 8 September 2018 the final, fourth fun and cognitive race Prešov - surroundings. The final race will be followed by a final draw for interesting prizes.
