Connecting Slovak-Polish spa border towns has ...

The Slovak part of the Aquavelo cycling route, which together covers more than 230 kilometres of cycling routes in Poland and Slovakia, has been completed. On Slovak territory, some cycling routes around Stara Ľubovňa have recently been completed and now we are just waiting for the billing of the Slovak part of the cyclo-route. Work on the new four-language AQUAVELO cycle route is also being finalised.

The project connects Polish and Slovak spa towns in the Slovak-Polish border area. It is about 230 km stretch between Bardejovské Kúpele, Krynica, Muzsyna, Szczawnica, with points of interest, monuments, fauna, flora ("BIKE ROUTE PROJECT MUSZYNA- BARDEJOV"). Radomír Jančošek, director of the regional tourism organisation "ŠARIŠ" - Bardejov, which is participating in the project as a partner, informs about it.

,,The entire Aquavelo cycle route is marked in a uniform manner and equipped with the same elements of small architecture. The project also included the construction and modernisation of footbridges, cycle rest areas, the installation of information boards, vertical markings, cycle stands, benches, etc. The infrastructure will be complemented by a cycle map and other promotional and information materials and a mobile application. The project for the construction of a cyclo-circle, connecting spa towns mainly in the vicinity of the Poprad river valley, is aimed at the economic revitalisation of the border parts of Slovakia and Poland. The aim is joint development, without mutual competitionncie," explained R. Jančošek.

He stressed that the Slovak-Polish project should create competition in relation to spa areas in Europe, in the framework of modern medical-rehabilitation, recreational and tourist offer. Aquavelo would represent an identifiable Polish-Slovak brand of spa towns with unique tourist and therapeutic-rehabilitation conditionsbased on the natural values, multicultural heritage, spirituality and traditions of the population. The route passes through the most valuable areas in terms of nature and landscape. It includes important monuments of wooden architecture and mineral water springs.

Aquavelo is a connection of the spa towns of the Polish-Slovak border region by means of a cycle circuit. The cycle path is led partly on existing routes (including EuroVelo) and partly on completed routes. The circuit connects in the village of Hniezdne with another circuit, which is being created within the project "Historical-cultural-natural Route around the Tatras" and will significantly increase the impact of the project and strengthen the positive effect associated with the development of the cross-border tourism product.

The cycle route passes through the following places:

Exceptional destination offer

The region of Bardejov and Bardejov Spa is already one of the cities connected by Aquavelo the most sought-after tourist destinations. Nowhere else in Slovakia is there such a wide range of historical UNESCO monuments, wooden churches, open-air museums in combination with mineral water springs and famous historical spas. In summer, tourists can use a number of hiking trails, cycle paths and then relax in the spa and wellness facilities. The richness and diversity of the region attracts many tourists, which opens up possibilities and opportunities for skilled people who are able to make a career in tourism. The tourist potential of the region is increasing. The admission of Svidník to the Regional Tourism Organisation (OOCR) "ŠARIŠ" - Bardejov has significantly enriched the offer with attractions of military history, mainly connected with the battles at the Dukla.

As a result of OOCR's activities in recent years, the the length of the restored marked hiking trails in the vicinity of Bardejov and the Bardejov Spa reaches almost 40 km. Alongside this, a network of six interconnected cycle paths, with a total length of more than 8 km, has been built and maintained in the area. It consists of four healing singletracks - Lekársky, Napoleon, Čerešenka and most recently Herkules, the Oxygen path Mihaľov - Bardejov and the Oxygen track in Bardejovské Kúpele. In addition, dozens of gazebos, rest areas and recreation and sports zones for children have been restored.
