PREŠOV (August 15, 2016) - Lovers of mushroom picking, hiking or family trips with children have a reason to pull out their backpacks or comfortable clothes. Recreation in nature can also be spent on a new 4.5 km long trail in the Prešov Forest Park.
The forest park of the city of Prešov provides not only the citizens of Prešov, but also people from the surrounding area with conditions for recreation, staying in nature and sports in the forest environment. "The main goal of the town is therefore to create conditions so that as many visitors as possible can find space for their various hobbies, whether in the form of family trips, sports, hiking or mushroom picking.," said Mayor Andrea Turčanová.
In recent months, the company Technical Services of the City of Prešov, a.s. has carried out the modification of the forest road, which leads from Za Kalváriou Street (the end of the public transport stop No.15), continues along Horárska Street, Zimný Potok Street and ends in the popular locality of Borkút. The total length of the trail is about 4.5 km and is open for hikers and mountain biking.
In cooperation with the Slomba Civic Association, which focuses on mountain biking, 5 singletracks have already been built. They are an attraction not only for mountain biking enthusiasts, but they are also popular with runners and recreational tourists. A walk along the short forestry nature trail in the locality of Malý Borkút with a total length of 500 m, which leads through easy terrain, is popular especially with families with children. On the route of the forestry trail, the visitor will encounter information boards about flora and fauna and will get interesting information about the environment in which it is located.
In the future, the intention is to connect this road to the existing recreational trail Borkút - Petőfi's Monument - Kamenná miná - Nad doktorovkou and to modify the road by pouring aggregate, which will also create conditions for recreational cyclists. The construction of an oxygen track is also planned in the Borkút area, on which wooden elements will be placed to enable rehabilitation and relaxation exercises. Another new feature, which will be an attraction for visitors, is the construction of disc golf stands, a very popular game with a flying saucer - a disc.
