Church of the Most Holy Mother of God, Čirč

The Greek-Catholic Church of the Most Holy Mother of God in the village of Čirč is a stone church built in the traditional Baroque-Classical style.

The year of construction of the temple is unknown. Only the year of repair, 1843, is indicated on its facade. It is the third church in the village. The first one is mentioned already in 1330 with the parish priest Henry, the second wooden (Carpathian style) around 1660 with the priest Daniel Janovic.

In 1749 for this church the bell was consecrated by the Latin Bishop of Eger, František Barkóczy de Szala. In 1751 the parish of Čirč was visited by the Greek-Catholic bishop of Mukachevo, Michal Manuel Olšavský.

The Church of the Most Holy Theotokos Protectress in Čirč was completely painted in 1927, including the wall paintings on the ceiling, and consecrated by the Greek-Catholic bishop of Prešov, Paul Peter Gojdič (on 4 November 2001 he was declared a martyr by Pope John Paul II in Rome). The stone wall around the temple was also reconstructed, demolished and rebuilt in 2005-2006.
