Kremenec Hill with an altitude of 1 221 m above sea level is part of the Bukovské hills a Poloniny National Park. The highest of the Bukov Hills is also the easternmost point of Slovakia: on Kremenec it dawns 30 minutes earlier than in the capital, Bratislava.
Since 2007 it has been on the World Heritage List UNESCO the most important Carpathian forest Stužica, in which Kremenec is located.
Ideal view of the Poloniny Mountains
On the main ridge of Kremenec, the second highest peak of Poloniny - Kamenná lúka, which offers a magnificent view of Veľká Rawka.
The nearby Čierťaž hill is interesting because until the 19th century it was the meeting place of the Zemplín, Užá and Halič counties. The saddle below Čierťaž is the place where the oldest hunting lodge in the Poloniny Mountains stood. It offers a view of the ridge of Veľký Bukovec.
The hill is also in an area that is, in terms of light pollution the darkest area in Slovakia. It is part of the first dark sky park in Slovakia (Poloniny Dark Sky Park).
Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine on top
On the highest point of Kremenec in Slovakia, which has an altitude of 1 207.7 m above sea level, there is granite border pillar marking the tri-border of Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine. Near the top, visitors can refresh themselves with excellent drinking water from the forest well.
From the top you can continue along the ridge along the Slovak-Polish border up to Riaba Rock. The very top of Kremenec (the highest point with an altitude of 1 221.0 m above sea level) is located outside Slovakia, about 150 metres east of our border.
For pedestrians: The easiest ascent to Kremenec is from the village Nová Sedlica along the red hiking trail.
