VERNAR
In the educational site partisan bunker you will find the remains of fortifications from World War II and two information boards with information about the construction of partisan bunkers during the Slovak National Uprising.
The bunker in Vernár was an important point in the defensive line, because it was located near the most important link, the road from Hranovnica to Vernár. The work on the construction of the defences was carried out mainly by civilians from the village of Vernár, working in cooperation with the rebel command.
The bunker is hidden in the woods on a steep hill and still in front of it is wooden photo housewhere you can relax and enjoy the views. On the other side of the village is the Studničky Hotel*** - the path past it takes you to a hill with swing and picturesque views.
LIPTOVSKÁ TEPLIČKA
Picturesque village at the foot of the mountains overlooking the Kralova Hora and the High Tatras attracts stares legendary cellars and terraced fields, which the locals call "stairway to heaven". The information centre will advise you where to look in the village and its surroundings, where you can also see the exhibition and climb the observation tower.
Potato cellars are a unique European feature in the beautiful countryside. More than 400 cellars have been preserved and are still used to store potatoes and vegetables at a year-round temperature of 2 to 6°C. The nature trail "Around Liptovská Teplička" will take you along a 6 km route surrounded by terraced fields below Kráľová hora.
STYLE
We recommend to start the trip in Štôle at war cemetery with almost 300 graves, in which soldiers from the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps are buried. Most of them died of injuries and illnesses in the hospital in Vyšné Hágo, in the hospital in Štôle and in the field hospital in Svit after crossing the front line. In 1999, the reconstruction of the cemetery was completed and a memorial called "Rose of gratitude" was added.
Near the cemetery there is Jurčova studnička (about 150 metres from the road towards the forest) and to the right the trail continues (about 2.7 km) to the picturesque Janosik waterfall. The terrain is mostly flat and so this trail is also suitable for less fit hikers or families with children.
Finally, we recommend you to visit Glass Studio right in the village, to see the art of a local glassmaker.
OLD FOREST
In the centre of the village Stará Lesná is fire station, where an old historic fire engine is on display. Next to it is water mill with a nearby bench for resting and nearby the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul with a bell tower from the 13th century. In the village below the Tatras you will also find an interesting totemwhich in Indian culture signifies unity and kinship.
At the very edge of the Old Forest flows Studenovodský brookover which crosses several small wooden bridges. Especially the location near the Hills Hotel is surrounded by beautiful scenery of the surrounding forests, from which the peaks of the Tatra Mountains rise. Stara Lesna is also home to Institute of Astronomy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (behind the hotel Contact). Visitors can enjoy a walk on a normal day astronomical traillocated on the premises of the research centre. The trail is made up of 13 information boards and runs alongside the observation pavilions, which house the telescopes for the research. The trails lead from there to Tatranská Lomnica.
GREAT SLAVKOV
A pleasant walk to an exceptional place is offered by Veľký Slavkov in the Tatra foothills. Archaeological site of Burich looks like a "mushroom" and is a destination for walks of the village residents and visitors. The route from the Roman Catholic church in the centre of the village to Burich is 3.1 km long, so even families with children can complete the route in 45 minutes. Mountain bikes can be continued towards Starý Smokovec or Gerlachov with changing views of the majestic Tatra Mountains.
