Trip to Vernár: Partisan bunker and skiing

Vernár is a picturesque village in the Poprad district surrounded by breathtaking nature on the border of two national parks: the Slovak Paradise and the Low Tatras. It is the starting point for a number of hiking trails and cycle paths.

You can get here from Poprad along the well-known Route 66, park in the centre of the village by the municipal office or by the ski resort (parking is free). Buses from Poprad go here in the direction of Rožňava or Revúca and stop at the bus stop in the centre. We recommend to start your trip around the village by visiting interesting sacral objects - Greek Catholic and Orthodox churches. The village is very quiet and peaceful, you are guaranteed to feel very comfortable in it.

Ski resort Studničky

The Studničky ski resort is only a few metres from the village. You can get here by a slightly narrow and little frequented road (by car or on foot). Along the way, you can find out about the nature of the Vernár district on information boards and relax on a bench in pleasant silence to the sounds of a small stream. A little further on the left you will find a well with water, which you can drink without fear. The water is very clean and tasty.

itself ski resort offers great family skiing for demanding skiers and beginners. Easy and intermediate ski slopes are located at an altitude of 800 to 1000 m. Their total length reaches 1400 m. In the centre are built 3 ski lifts. In the area of the resort there is rental and service. Children can learn to ski here in ski school. There is also buffetStorage. (For more information about the ski resort see: https://vernar-studnicky.com/)

Right next to the ski slope is a family Hotel Studnickywhere you can stay if you want to spend several days in the village and its surroundings. There is a restaurant, which is also available for non-accommodated guests. Restaurant offers a daily menu, which consists mainly of traditional Slovak dishes but also other specialties. You can also sit here for a coffee overlooking the slopes. In the summer months, we recommend running up the hill behind the hotel, where you will find an interesting attraction - swing in nature. You will enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings up to Kralova Hora. (More information about the hotel: https://www.studnicky.sk/)

Partisan bunker - educational site

On the other side of the village of Vernár there is an educational site, which consists of a bunker (a restored remnant of fortifications from World War II) and two information boards that provide information about the construction of partisan bunkers during the Slovak National Uprising.

The bunker is hidden in the woods on a steep hill, so we recommend visitors to increase caution when climbing, especially in the winter months.

You can also enjoy this exit beautiful views on the village and the surrounding hills.

Vernárska gorge

Less than two kilometres from Vernár, on the territory of the Slovak Paradise National Park, there is a picturesque gorge created by the Vernársky brook. An asphalt road connecting Vernár with the village of Hranovnica and the town of Poprad leads through the reservation. The majestic rock cliffs can be seen from the road. At the entrance to the gorge from Poprad there is a memorial site of the Slovak National Uprising, commemorating the battles of World War II. Other parts of the reserve (further away from the road) are not open to the public.

The village of Vernár is certainly worth a visit at any time of the year. In winter you can enjoy skiing in the local ski resort and in summer you can go hiking or cycling in the surrounding national parks.
