Cyclopathing 2018 started in Medzilaborce

MEDZILABORCE/KALINOV (30.6.2018) - Cycling through the Prešov Region 2018 started in Kalinov, the first liberated village on the territory of the former Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. Cyclists had the opportunity to explore not only the famous Andy Warhol Museum, but also various monuments, temples and natural sights.

The fifth year of Cyclopathing through the Prešov Region started in Kalinov on 30th June. The weather was really bad for cycling. The thermometer showed 12 degrees and strong wind reduced the temperature to five degrees. But despite the bad weather, the start in front of the pension Ľudmila met almost 60 cyclists, there were even cyclists from the other end of the county!

The competition was held via a mobile app Let's explorein which cyclists could find a game Cyclopathing Medzilaborce. In this game, cyclists found fifteen places that KOCR selected together with local residents. As an aid, they were also given a paper map with the competition points marked. As with every bike hunt, the cyclists themselves chose the routes and places they would take to earn competition points. The more challenging the approach to the location, the more points the cyclists could earn. The locations were located through the Discover mobile app. They had a time limit of 5 hours.

The competition places of the cyclo-search in Medzilaborce were: 1. Danova Pond, 2. Vjenska observation tower 3. Monument to the entry of troops into the Czechoslovakia, 4. Jasiel Camp with the Monument in Poland, 5. Habur Peat Bog, 6. Cemeteries from the First World War, 7. Statue of Laborec, 8. Miniskanzen Medzilaborce, 9. Andy Warhol Museum, 10. Jarčiská Roškovce, 11. Monastyr Krásny Brod, 12. Cemeteries from World War I in the village of Čabiny, 13.Tank in the village of Palota, 14. Palotská Jedlina and 15. Lupkovský Tunnel.

The cyclist with the most points was the home Stefan Macho, with a score of 420 points. He managed to visit even the most remote places, such as the WWI cemeteries on the border between Poland and Slovakia and the Lupkov Tunnel. The cyclists on the first places received medals and prizes from CTM Bikes, Good from Slovakia, Birell, Sulinka a KOCR Northeast of Slovakia.  In addition to the prizes, promotional materials about the Prešov Region and the Tourist Newspaper were prepared for the cyclists.
