PREŠOV (August 4, 2017) - The holidays are now in their second half and the August days still offer plenty of opportunities to spend your free time. If you have decided to spend the summer in Šariš, you can choose from both permanent and new events. Their overview has been prepared by the regional tourism organisation Región Šariš.
Tips for the weeks of August:
Hornotory Folklore Festival (4 - 5 August 2017, Krivany)
The 24th year of the Ján Lazorík Folklore Festival of Hornotory presents the specifics of folk art, especially unique folk musical instruments, folk music, dances and sketches. The festival will be opened on Friday, 4 August at 20:00 by the local DFSk Ján Lazoríka, followed by folklorists FS Vranovčan, Muzika Milan Rendoš and DFSk Raslavičan. Saturday will be dedicated to in memory of Ján Lazorík, an important Slovak ethnographer, folklorist and ethnographer. Visitors can learn about his life and work through an exhibition in pictures and a presentation of published books on folk culture.
On Saturday, August 5, visitors can learn to dance folk dances from 4:00 p.m. and enjoy more from 4:30 p.m. folklore performances folk ensembles, groups and music from near and far (from Kysuce to Košice). During both evenings, guests will dance at the dance party, which will be started by DJ Music and a guest from 23:00. In addition to folk music, dancing and singing, the festivities are a place to learn about folk crafts, Krivian cuisine and Slovak costumes. A traditional accompanying event is the festival cinema.
Goulash championship in Drienica - 5. 8. 2017, Drienica
On Saturday, the village of Drienica will attract visitors to the smell of goulash. Those who like to cook or taste the goulash, the smell will lead to the area behind the cultural centre. A jury will decide on the best master chef. All you have to do is put together competition team (2 to 5 people), choose a team leader and team name, provide ingredients and tools, and cook the best goulash from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The competition organisers will provide drinking water and firewood. The only mandatory ingredient is meat. The choice and quantity of this basic ingredient is left to the competition teams themselves. The name of the winner will be announced at 14:00.
Cultural summer with MUSe trio - 6. 8. 2017, Sabinov
The town of Sabinov offers its Sunday visitors not only delicious ice cream or relaxation while strolling around its royal and Oscar-winning centre, but also pleasant musical experiences as part of the Cultural Summer. If the weather is nice, at 4 p.m. in the park on the square Muse trio (Young Artists of Sabinov - Chamber Ensemble). The concert will feature classical and modern compositions such as Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel, Thousand Years, The Entertainer, The Secret or Can you feel the Love tonight.
Another Sunday afternoon in the park on the square will be dedicated to brass music. The local MDH Sabinka, which operates at the Municipal Cultural Centre, will perform 13 August at 4 p.m. One week later, 20 August, young and old can enjoy the puppet-dramatic fairy tale The Frog Princess performed by the Portal Theatre.
Outdoor Film Experiences - 10 - 14 August 2017, Prešov
Prešov residents and visitors can enliven the second week of August with an evening of quality Czech and Slovak films in the open air. During five evenings, from 10 to 14 August, the Bažant Kinematograf will take up residence in the Art Garden. It is an original nomadic type of "open-air cinemas", which travels all over Slovakia. From Thursday to Monday, the cinema will screen five films: The Tiger Theory, Baba of Ice, The Municipal School, The Teacher and Seven Brothers in Disgrace. According to the dramaturgy of each year, the programme also includes selected short pre-films. The screening always starts at 21:00, admission is free.
The unique Slovak opal mines are a unique experience for all ages.
Ascent to Šimonka with Slovak opal mines - 12. 8. 2017, Zlatá Baňa
Team of guides Slovak Opal Mines prepared for Saturday 12th August 2017 climb to the highest peak of the Slanské hills - Šimonka. The aim is to promote staying in the fresh air and spending free weekends with the family in the beautiful nature of the Slanské vrchy Mountains. They include the oldest opal mine in the world - the Slovak Opal Mine. Motivation for those who manage to return to the Slovak Opal Mines from the climb is a reward in the form of a ticket worth 10 euros for 1 person. The excursion can be experienced immediately after arriving at the place or the ticket can be given to someone else.
Meeting of the participants is in front of the municipal office in Zlata Bana at 9:00 am. Estimated time of arrival at Šimonka is 11:00 - 11:30. From Šimonka to the Slovak Opal Mines - Jozef Shed, arrival is expected at 15:00. Refreshments will be provided by the participants. Transportation from the Slovak Opal Mines to Zlata Bana to the cars will be provided by the guides. Good mood and a smile on your face are compulsory. Sharish hangers - 13. 8. 2017, Veľký Šariš
The opportunity to experience Sharis wedding according to ancient customs will be available to all those who come to St. James Square in Veľký Šariš on the second Sunday of August at 2:00 pm. The Finnish Women's Association will present an event with which the most beautiful ceremonies and traditions are associated. The aim of the FINCIČANKI association is to maintain and present folklore traditions preserved in the village of Fintice and in the Šariš region, based on the activities of the folklore group of Jozef Kolarčík, which under his leadership functioned in Fintice from 1918 to 1961. Thanks to him, many valuable descriptions of local folk customs have been preserved. From Kolarčík's estate comes also ethnographic material from the 1930s, on the basis of which a narrative theatre with eleven acts was created last year. One of the acts of this performance is "Putting the young and the young to bed". A male singing group will also perform Chomovare. The event is organized by the Cultural-Information Centre Veľký Šariš, as one of the activities on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the town of Veľký Šariš. The event is one of the activities as part of the celebration of the anniversary of the first written mention of the town of Veľký Šariš.
Prešov cycling marathon - 26. 8. 2017, Prešov
The third year of the Prešov Cycle Marathon will start from the Main Street in Prešov on Saturday 26.8.2017 at 13:00. "Let's turn off the computers, TVs, leave the couches and go to nature". The goal of the organizers is to get people from passive doing nothing to physical activity. At the same time, relationships with family and friends are strengthened and new acquaintances are made through joint cycling events. The civic association Cyklomarathon Prešov motivates to organize this regular event in particular the positive impact of cycling on health.
Cyklomaratón má štyri okruhy. Najdlhší z nich začína na prešovskej pešej zóne a vedie cez viacero obcí, napr. Uzovce, Sabinov, Medzany a končí v Jazdeckom areáli v Prešove. Druhý, 5,5 km dlhý okruh, vedie ulicami mesta Prešov. Na ďalších dvoch okruhoch budú v jazdeckom areáli pretekať deti od 3 do 6 rokov a zdravotne hendikepovaní. Okruhy majú po 25 a 100 m. Ocenený bude pretekár, ktorý prišiel z najväčšej diaľky, najstarší účastník a vylosovaní účastníci pretekov. Pivný festival v Sabinove - 25. – 27. 8. 2017, Sabinov
Kultúrne leto v Sabinove vyvrcholí pivným festivalom na Námestí slobody, v parku pri fontáne. Od piatku do nedele môžu návštevníci ochutnať viac ako 50 až 60 druhov pív, ktoré nie je možné bežne zakúpiť. Samozrejme k pivu patrí aj dobré, kvalitné slovenské jedlo, pripravené výrobcami a spracovateľmi z rôznych kútov Slovenska. Každý pivný festival má okrem zóny určenej iba pre dospelých aj zónu pre rodiny s deťmi. V tejto nebudú chýbať nafukovacie hrady, kolotoče, šmykľavky, trampolíny, detský program a množstvo občerstvenia, ktoré majú najmenší tak radi.
Večer bojových umení - 27. 8. 2017, Lipany - Hradisko
Prvý ročník podujatia s názvom „Bojovník“ sa uskutoční poslednú augustovú nedeľu na Hradisku v Lipanoch. Počas večera sa odprezentujú kluby bojového umenia, bojového športu a šermiarske skupiny zo Sabinova, Lipian, Košíc, Liptovského Mikuláša a Lučenca. Začiatok oficiálneho programu je o 20:00 hod. Od 17:00 hod. si návštevníci môžu vyskúšať jednotlivé bojové umenia a tréningy. Workshopy bojových umení a športov sú zamerané na rozoznie hroziaceho nebezpečenstva. Zastúpené budú rôzne druhy bojových umení, ale aj obranných a meditačných cvičení: Falun Gong, Capoeira, Karate, Aikido, Wing Tsun a ďalšie. Hradisko ej súčasťou letnej súťaže na hradoch LETOHRAD.

Kamenické hradné slávnosti - 12. – 13. 8. 2017, Hrad Kamenica
Hradné slávnosti sa na Hrade Kamenica uskutočnia už po jedenástykrát. V sobotu, 12. augusta, môžu návštevníci hradu od 15:00 sledovať historické remeslá. Night of castle ruins prinesie tento rok ohňovú šou, spojenú s vatrou a diskotékou. V nedeľu 13. augusta, pokračujú Castle festivities už o 13:00 bohatým program, počas ktorého vystúpia: Monika Kandráčová, ĽH Pajtaš, FRIMart studio - tanečná škola a ukážky spoločenských tancov, Kameničanka, Fertuška, Léthe quartet, Figliar a ĽH Sosna. Sprievodný program zahŕňa módnu prehliadku a prehliadku vojenskej techniky. Vstup na podujatie je zdarma. Podujatie je súčasťou letnej súťaže na hradoch LETOHRAD.
Hradná míľa, 20. 8. 2017, Veľký Šariš – Šarišský hrad
Nádvorie Šarišského hradu privíta 20. augusta súťaž bežcov na vzdialenosť 1609 m. Bežeckú trať tvorí vnútorný a vonkajší okruh popri hradbách. Organizátori podujatia, OZ Torysa a mesto Veľký Šariš, pripravili súťaž pri príležitosti 800. výročia prvej písomnej zmienky o meste. Ambasádorkou podujatia je Lucia Hrivnák Kľocová, majsterka SR v atletike ne stredné trate.
Pretekárov na hradnej míli tvoria dve kategórie: ženy (v dvoch) a muži (v troch vekových skupinách). Pre účastníkov pretekov je zabezpečené občerstvenie a spomienkové tričko. Otvorenie pretekov je o 14:00 hod., od 14:15 prebiehajú rozbehy. Tí, ktorí sa rozhodnú do pretekov zapojiť, určite ocenia jedinečnú hradnú atmosféru, krásne prostredie a zaujímavý terén. Workshop na Hanigovskom hrade, 28. - 30. 8. 2017, Hanigovský hrad
Občianske združenie Novum castrum organizuje v závere augusta už po piatykrát workshopy na Hanigovskom hrade. Program workshopov je v prvé dva dni zameraný na prezentáciu murárskych a konzervačných prác pôvodnými technikami a technológiami. Workshopy sú určené pre tých, ktorí chcú získať nové skúsenosti, nadobudnúť zručnosti a poznatky o pôvodných postupoch využívaných v minulosti pri výstavbe hradu. Záujemcovia si môžu vyskúšať napríklad škárovanie, patinovanie, ale aj murovanie na torzálnej architektúre. Posledný deň môžu návštevníci sledovať a pomôcť s prácami v archeologickej sonde pod dohľadom a výkladom archeológa. Workshop doplní prezentácia prác a prednáška s diskusiou pod vedením odborníkov. Vstup na workshopy je zdarma. Hrad je súčasťou letnej súťaže na hradoch LETOHRAD.
